Unannounced

Inside she creeps
gentle
like a kid in the crawl space
earth floor
earth damp
where she can barely stand up and walk under the boards
undetected
unannounced

She just wanted to look around

My depression wears green shorts and no shirt
Bare feet, tanned skin, organic
She's from another place
another time
and won't conform here
She cups her hand over my mouth
this Peter Pan wild child
and make me conform to her

There are no rest days where she's from because there are no work days
There is only Purpose
razor sharp relentless drive

I'm blood in the water
I'm the bloody body trying to reason with the shark
"I'm not even a swimmer, I'm not your prey"

"Blood is blood" she says,
wiping drips off her mouth with the back of her hand

She knows my name
She knows what I like to eat, where I keep the good whiskey
She just wanted to look around
